Math

In Mr.Kimber's class, 7th graders are learning about a lot of different things. For example:
proportions, graphs, and how box and whiskers plots work. Mr.Kimber is also getting them ready
for the big state assessment.
For bell work, Mr.Kimber is also teaching them how to calculate mean, median, mode,
and range. They are also working on a lot of plots (line plots, scatter plots, stem-and-leaf plots)
and graphs (bar graphs, double bar graphs, line graphs, y-x axis graphs, circle graphs). Mean,
mode, median, and range also go with the plots and graphs.

In Ms. Turvey's class we are learning about box and whisker plots (book 3; Pre-Algebra) You find the middle number (median,) then you take it and put it off to the side, there is a space between the lower and the upper half. Find the median of the top and lower half, take those three numbers and put them on a line plot. Make 2 boxes, one from the lower to the middle median and one from the middle to the higher median. (Should look something like this ---|__|_|---.) Take the lowest number from the whole set of numbers and put it on the far right, and put the highest number on the far left, connect the two numbers to the side of the box. State assessments are coming up soon, so study hard...

Language Arts

In Mrs. Reese's class they are preparing for state assessments that are coming up. They're doing this by learning and identifying the four text types. Students finished reading a story called The Scholarship Jacket .
They took a test and made a comic strip to summarize the story. Now they're reviewing word parts like prefixes, roots, and suffixes. Students are also reviewing the different types of figurative language. Mrs. Reese's students just started to learn four types of approaches. For example bandwagon approach, statistics, expert testimonials and appeals to emotional/reasons.

In Language Arts we are working on our persuasive techniques(propaganda). One technique is the bandwagon approach, which is when you persuade someone by telling them that everyone is doing it. like if someone says that "everyone is doing it and then so should you". Next is statistics which persuades the reader with proven numbers or percents. Like 9\10 dentists choose Colgate over Crest. Then there is the expert testimonials which gets a celebrity to endorse a company's product. Like Jessica Simpson uses Proactive. Then finally there is appeal to your emotions\reason which means that the company gets you to help by playing by playing with your emotions. For example the "humane society" commercials and the "feed the hungry" commercials.

Social Studies

In Mr.Crippen's room the 7th graders are learning about Kansas History. They are making posters and 3-D models on the Indians or on the Trails. The Trail of Luis and Clark, and the Santa Fe Trail are some of the trails the students are working on. Some of the Indian tribes their working on are Kansa, Pawnee, Osage, Cheyenne, Arapaho, Kiowa, and the Kickapoo tribe. The students have to find information on their tribe or trail. On the tribe you have to research a lot of things like what part of Kansas did they live in, what kind of housing did they use (tipis), did they depend on the buffalo, how did or did the removal act effect your tribe, what they ate, and did they have any traditional ceremonies. On the trail you have to research where did they go, who started the trail and other stuff.

Science

In Science, 7th Graders are learning about the Earth`s temperature. They are doing a lot of worksheets. The worksheets they are doing are on Earth`s Crust and Earth`s temperature. For bell work we do math problems . We work on proportions, because Mr.Ellsworth is trying to get us ready for the state assessment. In Mr.Ellsworth class the seventh graders watch sixty second science. When watching sixty second science, the seventh graders learn mostly about the plant earth and the environment. For example: the outer core, inner core, and the layers of earth, earth`s crust, earthquakes, Hurricane Katrina, and more.
